Born with a passion for song, Yossi Slomiac’s singing career debuted at age 5 when he grabbed the mic at his sister’s wedding. He took to the keyboard at age 8 and later learned the basics of the saxophone. He even went on to compose original songs in honor of his friends' weddings. Yossi is particularly drawn to the compositions of Yossi Green and Mona Rosenblum and the singing of MBD. 

In 2019, Yossi joined the Shira Choir, where he continues to expand his musical horizons and perfect his pitch. Although he enjoys exploring the 50 states on his many road trips, nothing matches the pleasure he gets upon seeing the smiles generated by the choir’s appearance.

Music has always been part of Shulem Feder’s life; in fact, he started singing as soon as he started talking! Growing up, Shulem took to the keyboard and loved harmonizing with his brothers around the Shabbos table. Although his favorite song changes with the weather, Beri Weber is his most beloved frum singer.

In 2021, Shulem took his musical passion to the next level by joining Shira, the choir he’d always admired, upon his friends’ encouragement. Shulem derives a thrill from attending a wide range of events, experiencing exhilaration at amping up the joy wherever he performs. Not surprisingly, the junior Feders are perpetuating the family’s musical legacy.

Growing up in a musical environment, Avrumy Lungar considers music part of his identity. As a kid, he would walk around singing, fingers drumming to the beat on the nearest surface. Yoeli Greenfeld and Levy Falkowitz were the early musical inspirations that shaped his career.

Avrumy, who also plays the saxophone, joined the Shira Choir family upon Yoeli Horowitz’s invitation. Rubbing shoulders with a talented team of great personalities has enriched his life. 

But no matter how late he’s been singing his heart out, whether it’s one of his favorite classic Yossi Green compositions or a classic MBD, Avrumy makes sure to start his day at 6:45 am.

Shmiel Yitzchok has been proving his musical prowess ever since mastering the piano at the age of 6. Guitar was later added to his repertoire but throughout it all, he continued singing, with his first public appearance at age 21. Offstage, Shmiel Yitzchok uses his relative pitch to create interesting cords to complement the car’s seat belt alarm. 

One year ago, this Eli Marcus fan and Mona aficionado joined the Shira Choir, seizing the opportunity to focus on a job during the day while relishing in his musical passion and expertise on the side. The enthusiastic audience feedback keeps him on stage, although a piece of dry carob (or humor) also gives him a boost.

Gedalye first shared his talent with the public at age 9 as a member of the MK Studio choir. His early musical heroes were Mona Rosenblum and Naftali Schnitzler and he draws inspiration from Shloimy Daskal’s singing. 

A skilled pianist and a soulful singer, Gedalye joined Shira in 2021 after latching onto Yoel Horowitz. Aside from broadening his musical knowledge, Shira has given him a boost of confidence and enhanced his social life.

Gedalye particularly enjoys jazz, swing and Latin music. He has a penchant for cooking, and, quite predictably, winds down by playing the piano.  Gedalye revels in the not-so-simple blessings of everyday life and it is this mindset that keeps him singing.

Shlome Wechter, a Shira member since 2019, had been a member of a different choir for years before. The reason for the switch? In his words, “I wanted to be part of the best.”

His public singing career dates back to the late 90’s,  when little Shlome starred in the Chanukah choir performed in the massive Satmar court. The sole musical member of his extended family, Shlome would play the keyboard whenever his parents allowed it.

The Shira Choir has afforded him a healthy and professional outlet for his musical talent and a whole new group of cherished friends. Shlome, a chocoholic who relaxes by playing with architectural legos, also runs his own music studio.

Yidel Rosenfeld was a musical child prodigy, composing songs, playing the piano and singing for the late Vizhnitzer Rebbe. His early musical influences include Mona and Nachman Dreyer.

Yidel, an expert guitarist who can play the instrument backwards, joined the Shira Choir four years ago. This has not only exposed him to a pool of rare musical talent; it has also opened him up to a broader spectrum of Jewish people with whom he loves sharing his positive vibes.

What amazes him about the choir is the way its harmony syncs perfectly with the music. He loves tight rhythm and MBD’s singing, but what gives him the oomph to keep singing is the audience feedback.

Shlome, who had always been a Shira fan, is honored to be part of the acclaimed choir for the past two years. As a child, he has fond memories of singing around the Shabbos and Yom Tov table as well as in school productions . He was also featured on the popular Yossele Fleet albums.

A seasoned player of both the piano and the flute, Shlomo never fails to be moved by Moshe Goldman’s stirring classic “Pnei Lelbon” and can’t get enough of Gertner’s “Say Asay” and Lipa’s “Lekros Es HaHallel.”

Although he is astounded at Shira’s nonstop flow of creativity, what keeps him singing is the deep satisfaction of bringing joy to so many hearts.

Shmiely has been singing since the age of 9, when a rapt audience predicted a bright musical future for him. The legendary Moshe Goldman was his first musical inspiration and today, he looks to Beri Weber,  Lipa Schmeltzer and MBD for their unparalleled musical brilliance.  

Almost three years ago, Shmiely Schmeltzer’s dream of singing with “the legends'' came true when he became an honored member of the Shira Choir. Day after day, he continues to be blown away by the energy and nonstop creativity of the Shira Choir.

Shmiely prefers rock-style music and not surprisingly, singing is his favorite pastime. He loves to travel; is that why Lipa B’Derech is his all-time favorite album?

Growing up with the soulful melodies of Skulen, music has always played a large role in Yidel Zafir’s life. A talented composer of more than 100 original songs in the past two-and-a-half years, Yidel is inspired by artists such as Carlebach and Ishai Ribo. 

He first performed publicly at 22 and joined Shira in 2022 to give voice to his musical talent. Yidel thrives on being part of this dynamic group and the publicity factor, which compels him to make a good impression wherever he goes. A dabbling drummer and professional pianist, Yidel is keenly tuned into the symphony of Torah, and is an accomplished Torah scholar, having finished Shas at the age of 18.

Music has taken first priority. All it takes is the mere mention of the word ‘music’ or ‘singing’ for Shraga Gold’s antennae to go up. After all, music taken first priority even since he started singing at age 2.

Shraga’s love for singing became a career when he was approached for his first paying gig after performing at a community occasion.

Unearthing old Jewish musical compositions is Shraga’s hobby, but he’ll make do with a Mona classic or a spirited MBD at any time. 

The happy feedback he receives gives him the energy to constantly raise the bar for the Shira Choir, while generating creative concepts to sustain and surpass the gold standard in the world of Jewish music. 

Hershy’s introduction to music began at a young age, growing up as he did with the beautiful melodies of Belz. He further developed his passion for song during his summers in camp, and joined the Shira Choir back in 2008.

The masterpieces of R’ Yosef Tzvi Breier of Belz continue to inspire Hershy, as do the classic works of Mona Rosenblum. 

There are many positive aspects that come along with rubbing shoulders with a talented crew of singers, but what gets Hershy’s pulse racing are the challenging choir lines. Still, more than anything else, he is grateful for the many opportunities of bringing joy to others, especially the Chasan and Kallah on their special day.

Inspired by his father’s musical touch, Avrum Shiya’s own talent was recognized at a young age when he performed with his brother in front of  the venerated Tosher Rebbe, who asked for an encore.

Shira Choir recognized this child prodigy, inviting him to accompany them from time to time. Four years ago, Avrum Shiya officially became a choir member. 

Avrum Shiya, who is an adept clarinetist and keyboard player, is astounded by the quality and professionalism that come along with being part of this group. He views it as an opportunity to fine-tune his musical skills and is grateful for the opportunity to use his talents to bring light to so many lives. 

Yoel has lived and breathed music since he was very young. His first musical milestone was leading a Chanukah choir in Yeshiva.

Although Yoel joined Shira Choir 18 years ago, he still gets excited each time they pull off another sensational gig. The ability to do what he enjoys while spreading joy motivates him to continue sharing his unique talents.

Yoel is drawn to the world of leadership and laps up books on this subject. He draws musical inspiration from the works of R’ Yankel Talmud and Chabad as well as the compositions of Mona Rosenblum.

Yoel’s singing career began at age 22. He also plays the keyboard professionally and dabbles at the acoustic guitar.

As a child, Leiby soaked in the music of Lipa Schmeltzer, Ohad Moskowitz and Yaakov Schwekey, challenging himself to sing the musical arrangements of their albums.

Joining Shira has helped him break through his natural shyness and has enabled him to spread joy and inspiration to the world.

Leiby’s first big step in the music industry took place in MBD’s studio, where he participated in a Shira recording. He had no intention of joining the live choir, but warmed up to the idea of doing behind-the-scenes singing.

He embraces the opportunity to attend a variety of lavish affairs and joyous celebrations while having a grand ol’ time with his fellow choir members on stage.

Shea Kaff views his musical talent as a gift granted to him from Above to be utilized to the fullest. He’s been singing professionally ever since he was a child, as a choir member and a soloist on various albums.

An actor to boot, Shea utilizes drama for added effect when on stage and in his day job as a Cheder Rebbe. Becoming a member of the Shira Choir in 2019 has afforded him the opportunity of pursuing his passion for song while maintaining his regular work schedule.

Introspective by nature, Shea appreciates classical, calm music but hasn’t yet found a favorite album. He uses his free time to relax and gain knowledge.

Yoel’s public singing career debuted at age 11, when he was chosen as a soloist at a school event. For the next three years, he was the star soloist at school events and well-attended community occasions.

 Unlike most choir members, Yoel barely listens to music, preferring to tune into the quiet stirrings of his soul. His favorite albums are L'chaim Yidden and Efshar Letaken, and Yossi Green’s Od Yeshvu is the melody that most resonates with him.

In 2010, at Shraga Gold’s behest, Yoel joined the Shira Choir. He considers it a privilege to belong to such a professional group and is humbled by the opportunity to spread joy to the masses night after night.

If you meet Yakov Yosef Feldman, talented Baal Tefillah and singer, during the week, you may just catch him humming Shabbos melodies. It’s this combined passion for music and Shabbos songs that brought him to the Shira Shabbos choir at age 21.

Although he misses his family, Yakov Yosef thrives on the inspiration and relaxation he gets and gives by singing the moving zemiros, especially on Shabbos night. He loves watching his relaxed audience tap into the magic of Shabbos and song, thanks to the unique spirit of the day. The most memorable Shira Shabbos so far has been the one spent with Hamaspik and his favorite Chazan is Yoel Ausch.

Sruly Green was always attuned to the world of music. A shy child, he was roped into joining the Velvel Schmeltzer choir, and is forever grateful for that push.

Since joining the choir in January 2022, Sruly has experienced Shabbos on a higher spiritual plane. He is fascinated by the exposure to a wide array of venues and enjoys connecting with a broad spectrum of people. 

Sruly makes a concentrated effort to absorb the beauty of the moment and give the singing all he’s got, a tall order with no music to provide some breathing space. The tefila he finds most stirring is Raza DeShabbos, and his favorite zemiros are the Friday night melodies.

Music played a large role in Yonasan Brieger’s childhood home, where authentic orchestras and classical music were particularly cherished. At age 10, Yonasan took a front row seat in a Shira Shabbos choir, singing several solos. the memory of that shabbos continues to warm him, even as an active member of the Shira Shabbos ensemble for two years now.

Yonasan misses his family on Shabbos, but the pleasurable company of his fellow choir members and the social interaction with a wide range of guests provide fair compensation.

The stirring Raza D’Shabbos melody and Yossele Mandelbaum’s Mizmor L’Dovid are his hands-down favorites, while, on the cantorial front, Chesky Brecher and Yoeli Ausch rank highest.

Growing up, Yossi Fisch spent the bulk of his spare time listening to music and keeping close tabs on the newest releases.  Amazed at the powerful effect of music upon the audience’s mood, Yossi fulfilled his dream of spreading positive vibes when he became a card-carrying Shira member in 2015.

He finds all the Shabbos Zemiros enchanting, as well as the warm atmosphere created by the tight-knit Shira Shabbos choir.

Although Yossi wishes he could hear a replay of the Shabbos performances, he makes the most of the live musical experience during the seudos and tefillos and thrives on mingling with the guests.  So far, he has found the Hamaspik Shabbaton to be most intriguing.

With Moshe Goldman, MBD and Michoel Schnitzler as his early musical inspirations, Hillel was always a music lover. He debuted as a public singer at age 10, joining the choir back in 2018 in order to generate joy, especially at family simchas.

Hillel finds spending Shabbos away from the comfort of home “not easy but rewarding.” He has a soft spot for all Vizhnitzer zemiros and particularly savors the Friday night tefillos and songs. Hillel revels in the elevated Shabbos atmosphere and appreciates when the audience is visibly engaged. 

Shira has undoubtedly opened many doors for him and expanded his social circle, but the most enthralling Shabbos he spent thus far was in Moscow, Russia.

Hershel Karpen was always musical but the first time he really connected to a song was when one of his family members presented a heartfelt rendition of Avraham Fried’s “Vayedaber Moshe” at a wedding.

He joined the choir in February 2022, and is astounded by how they imbue the atmosphere with a true Shabbos spirit wherever they go. 

Hershel feels fortunate to be part of  a beautiful group of people, with strong leadership that helps bring out the best of their talents.

Being on board for Shabbos Shira for 26-hour stretches has enhanced his singing ability, strengthened his voice. and has also introduced him to a wonderful group of people and interesting Shabbos experiences.

Always a performer, Levi Stekel would constantly perform at class events, and his first public appearance was at age 12. In September 2019, Levi became a Shira Shabbos choir member so he could express his love of singing while getting others to sing. 

What he cherishes most about the Shabbos experience are the stirring Kabbalas Shabbos tunes and the warm Friday night “bota.” He finds the cantorial recitations of Chazans Ausch and Brecher most touching, and relishes the Bnei Yissoschor’s Kol Mekadeish.

He won’t deny that being away from home on Shabbos is challenging, but at the same time, being part of Shira has given Levi amazing Shabbos experiences and gifted him an extended family.

Duvid Deutsch’s entry into the singing world started in his teens when he began leading the zemiros at the weekly Shabbos seudos.

He joined Shira as a one-time gig in the winter of 2021 and has stayed on ever since. Duvid finds it amusing to be suspected of being an entertainer at any simcha he attends, but sticks to his part in the choir because he thrives on the company of the talented Shira club.

Frankly, Duvid doesn’t care for Chazzanus; what what speaks to him most to him most are the last few zemiros of the Friday evening meal.

He finds each Shira Shabbos experience inspirational, but Bonei Olam, so far, has outdone them all.

Enchanted by the world of music from a tender age, Eli Goldstein took music lessons to hone his innate talent. He first sang publicly at age 12 and became a Shira Shabbos member in 2020.

He thrives on the vibrant social environment created by the choir members and enjoys getting acquainted with the crowds in attendance. What moves him most is the warm Friday night singing, although Raza D’Shabbos is the uncontested highlight of the Friday night singing, especially if led by the right Baal Tefilla. 

Eli is grateful to have joined Shira both for the immense pleasure he derives from singing and the wonderful relationships he has built with the beloved Shira Choir members.

When Zevy Friedman, always a music lover, was a young boy, Shraga Gold and sons spent Shabbos in his home. The memory of the heartwarming singing and Havdalah are seared into his memory, serving as a catalyst for his joining the Shira crew in 2021.

His favorite chazzanim are his father and Yoel Ausch and he appreciates each one of the Shabbos zemiros for its unique vibe.

With his father a founding member of the choir, Shira is in Zevy’s blood and he enjoys bonding with the rest of the Shira family.

Being in Shira has given this camera-shy singer added confidence in his abilities, as well as inspiring Shabbosim spent with amazing organizations.

Growing up with a father like R’ Shraga, the founder and leader of the choir, music took center stage in Mordche Gold’s life. He first sang publicly as a 6-year-old and can distinctly recall singing for his great-grandfather. a few days before his passing. 

Back in the day, he and his brothers starred as the Shira Shabbos Children’s Choir, but today, he is the only official choir member in his family.

Of all the beautiful zemiros, Mordche is most enraptured by the Toldos Aharon Kah Ribbon as well as the other Friday night classics. 

Pouring his heart, soul, and of course, his voice, into the spiritual Shabbos singing gives him deep satisfaction…and leaves him hoarse until Monday.

Shloimy Hoffman’s earliest musical inspiration dates back to his childhood, when he spent the Yomim Noraim davening and tischen in Israel. Although he first sang publicly at age 9, he officially became an adult Shira Choir member 8 years ago so that he could enhance Shabbos for his fellow Yidden.

Despite finding it difficult to spend Shabbos away from home, Shloimy sticks to his role since he finds the Shabbos singing so. He is particularly fond of Vizhnitzer Zemiros and Gerrer marches, as well as the heartwarming tefilos of R’ Mordechai Volvi Landau.

Interacting with new people is a side perk for Shloimy and he especially appreciates when the audience sings along.
